ECONOMIA

The gallery space was transformed into an abandoned room. The kinetic works in the room were subverting commonly used household products. The products were transformed into mechanically-operated automatons - creating an opposite effect to their original assignment. The sculptures are "error makers," Slow sculptures that drip, stain, and spread. Sculptures on the verge of collapse.

MIDDLE AGES

The words museum and mausoleum (tomb estate) are closely related beyond a phonetic association. As is well-known museums, and especially their collection warehouses can be perceived not only as conservation sites but as a burial grounds for works of art. In many ways, works of art owe their very existence to the museum's commemoration, but it is also this mechanism of preservation that turns them into "ghosts" - dead-living objects, which once in a while reappear in the exhibition space.

The solo exhibition by the artist Roni Weiss is inspired by the term "Gothic", to create a space that re-floods elements and layers that are immortalized in the basements of the museum and the archive and raises questions about the status of museum collections. Contemporary goth can be formulated as contrary to the cultural hierarchy. Archetypal artwork in the show, those belonging to the collection are presented alongside everyday objects. The works in the exhibition are recreated, appropriated, taken out of proportion, distorted, and disconnected from their original context. The origin of the word in the 15th century and its roots in Roman-Greek culture - that which is outside the cultural order. Over time, this term has become linked to psychologically charged sites through macabre rhetoric. Contemporary goth can be formulated as contrary to the cultural hierarchy, and as tainted by the formidable. The attempt to understand what is gothic is the attempt to understand what haunts us - the ghost; This experience can be described as a familiar and at the same time jarring and disturbing feeling, in this sense, what we cannot remember is what haunts us.
